Barcelona, Spain's second city and its leading industrial centre. It is a well-equipped modern seaport on the Mediterranean Sea which handles 90 per cent of Spain's imports, especially coal, oil and cotton.
Textile mills dominate the industrial scene, but machinery and chemicals are gaining steadily in importance. Barcelona exports cloth, wine, cork and fruit, and imports coal and cotton for its manufacturing plants.
